Tuesday
Houghton, Sept. 2 - The freight train due here at 7:00 o'clock
last evening had an accident happen to it just a half mile south
of L'Anse. The train was in three sections. The men were switching one of them onto a side track; some freight cars got away and
ran into some flats loaded with hard coal, which upset the flat
cars and threw the train off the track. Two box cars were ditched. One of them, containing a horse which miraculously came out
of the car without a scratch, turned a complete somersault. The
passenger train going south was delayed four hours by the wreck.
