The First Train
Kaufman & Sons are selling tickets for the first DSS&A train,
and a glance at the crow in front of their store every day now
will show what a rush there is to see the train arrive and depart.
The track is a little heavy, the ballast being poor. The train
manages to make scheduled time and proves such an attraction that
a special policeman will be necessary on that part of Front street.
Grown people, as well as children stop to watch a real steam locomotive, not ten inches long, whizz around on its circular track,
pulling its train as well as any mogul. The cars are marked DSS&A
in honor of the new road. The train is the best window attraction
to be seen in Marquette.
