Accident Report - December 17, 1887.
An accident occurred on the Duluth South Shore and Atlantic Railway near Ishpeming on the 17th day of December 1887 at 930 o'clock A. M. caused by
Richard Nugent, brakeman with switch engine in Ishpeming yard losing a portion of middle finger on right hand. He was pulling pin between engine and ore car no. 992, when engine slacked back; his finger caught between pin and dead wood taking off a portion. He was off work 3 weeks, but is again on duty.
