Railroad Extension
The Crystal Falls Diamond Drill has the following in regard to the contemplated extensionof the M&N:
It is now given out that the company will extend its line to Crystal Falls and thence to Sidnaw, in order to complete a direct line of its own to Houghton and the copper country. The company now owns a line of railroad extending from Sidnaw to Ontonagon, or about half way between Ontonagon and Sagola. As it now is, more trains are run over the DSS&A tracks from Champion to Sidnaw, on the Ontonagon route, while all the traffic to Hancock and Houghton has to be transferred to the line of hte DSS&A. Increased traffic on the last named line has already compelled the M&N folks to take off one of their trains and future prospects for perfect service on tHe m&N by this arrangement are not flattering. Hence it is said, the necessity of making the extension must inevitably follow. This appears to be a very plausible reason for the extension and lends more stability to the rumor than anything has yet been reported. It is also stated that if the extension is made, a line from Sidnaw to Houghton will also be built completing the line.
