Baraga - McGrath's team was standing near the depot last Tuesday evening after dark, became frightened and ran straight down the track. A man on South Main street heard them running away and started out with a lantern to head them off, which he succeeded in doing just before they reached the crossing. The freight train was rapidly approaching, but the man waved his lantern and the train was stopped within a few feet of the horse. It was a narrow escape for them as a few minutes more would have brought the engine on them.
