Negaunee - During the winter the ore hoisted from pits seven and eight of the Jackson mine, were stacked near the DSS&A main line. A wall was built of the heavier chunks and braces were used, but some snow or ice must have packed into the wall, for Wednesday morning the stockpile caved outward on to the South Shore main line and the C&NW Spur. Some of the early ore trains on the DSS&A were necessarily detained until the ore was removed and the work of loading cars was hindered. Otherwise no damage was caued(*) by the fall of ore.
