Accident Report - July 4, 1887.
An accident occurred on the Duluth South Shore and Atlantic Railway near Negaunee on the 4th day of July 1887, caused by:
Peter La Post (of Cascade, Mi.) passenger on special passenger train eastbound standing on rear platform of rear coach, leaning over as far as he could holding on by hand rail and looking back, projecting himself fully a foot beyond the side of the coach and striking his head on a pole which holds up guy rope for derrick at the Jackson Iron Co.'s mine. Head badly cut, was taken to hospital at Ishpeming (this A. M. 4th). Doctor reports him progressing favorably.
Casualties - One passenger injured.
