The Chicago Journal of Commerce displays its knowledge of
the railroad situation on the Upper Peninsula thusly: "The
DSS&A has all ready ordered 20 engines of the Brooks Works,
Dunkirk, and 25 of other builders, and 1,600 freight cars
and 30 passenger coaches and are making contracts for a great
variety of additional material. The contractors have placed
orders for over 30,000 tons of steel rails. From Minneapolis
the road is known as the MSSM&A and forms a part of the line
from S. S. Marie to Dakota."
