DSS&A Officials at Duluth
General superintendent Watson, and General Traffic Manager
Orr, of the DSS&A, have been making their first visit to Duluth. Mr. Watson reports 300 miles of their road in operation,
the track laid on 90 miles more, and 75 miles in addition ready
for the track. It is the present purpose of the company to
build their road to a connection with the NP at Iron River,
about 40 miles east of Duluth, and for a time to use the NP
track from that point in, although they comtemplated [* contemplated] building
an independent line, but whether they do or not the DSS&A will
run its cars into Duluth by the 4th of next July. Asked whether
it was true that his company proposed taking an interest in the
Red Wing, Mr. Watson said he had little knowledge of the intention's [* intentions] of the company, except as to the work he had in hand,
but he has seen a newspaper report that Mr. McMillan proposed
to take a large block of stok [* stock] of that company, and if he did
it would result in the road being built. -Duluth Tribune
