Soo Road
Directors' Train About
December 15th
The much talked of "Soo" has finally reached our city limits
and another great tranacontinental line has been added to our
list of railroads. About a week ago work was begun again on
the eastern terminus of the MSSM&A and in order that there
might be no delay, Engineer Cox sent to Escanaba for an extra
supply of steel which was brought to this point by the DSS&A.
The rails are here and a few weeks will see the ballasting done,
tanks erected and regular trains running between Minneapolis
and the Sault.
It is expected that the directors of the road will start on
a tour of inspection about the 15th of this month, and soon after
that regular trains will undoubtedly be put on, although the
time for doing so may be postponed until after the completion of
the bridge. For the present owing to the difficulty in securing right of way, this line will run in on the DSS&A from a
point a few yards south of the roundhouse, and during the winter
the roundhouse and other terminal facilities of the DSS&A will
be used. Now, again, the people of the Sault have occasion to
rejoice. This line will open up a large territory which is sure
to be tributary to the Sault, and together with our other superior
advantages, will help the Sault to become the great metropolis of
the northwest.
