The American Mining Co., operating the American (formerly Sterling)
mine At Clarksburgh, has a small force of men at work unwatering
the mine, which will be pumped dry about the middle of the present
month. A force of about 40 to 50 men will then be put on and
regular mining work will be started. Captain W. H. Johnson of Lake
Superior, is directing the operations there at present. The mine
has been inactive since 1884, in which year it shipped about 3,000
tons of ore. It is a good property and can be profitably wrought at
ruling prices of ore. A creditable output this year will be achieved
if nothing untoward prevents.
