A despatch to the Herald announced that the last rail has been laid on the MSSM&A, making a continuous line from Minneapolis to the "Soo." The Sault Ste. Marie branch of the CPR reached that point upwards of a week ago. The DSS&A, from Duluth along the south store of Lake Superior, has reached the "Soo" and the Grand Trunk is also looking forward to a connection with that place. In the meantime Sault Ste. Marie will soon be the center of three great railroad lines which cannot but give it importance as a business center. Two railways, the CPR and MSSM&A are now waiting for completion of the International bridge there, which will be finished early in January. When this takes place, the American Northwest will have a more direct connection with Montreal and the seaboard than by any other route. The International bridge and the convergence at the "Soo" of the lines of railways mentioned have caused that place to suddenly spring into importance. It was formerly a Hudson Bay post, and has grown into a small village. Now that it has suddenly become a railroad center it is growing rapidly and putting on town airs, and in due time will want to become a city.
