This week has seen the beginning of active work in the ballasting the track of the Soo branch of the South Shore. There is now construction trains working on the line between Soo and Soo Junction. One is operating on this end and the other near the Junction. The one here is taking gravel and sand from the cut just west of the roundhouse. Some of it is being taken out to bad places along the track, while a portion of it is being used on the track in the yards here. About 25 men are employed on the train at this end and nearly an equal number at the other end. The gravel used by the west end train is secured at St. Ignace. The number of men will be increased when the snow disappears and work in earnest is begun on side tracks and filling at the yards. The train at this end began work Wednesday, while the one on the west end has been at work all the week.
