The Sault Branch
Brown, Howard & Co, the contractors of the DSS&A[Duluth, South Shore and Atlantic] have sub-let the contract for clearing, grading and bridging the Sault branch, from Sage on the DM&M [Detroit, Mackinac and Marquette] to the Sault, to Rexford Bros. & Hodge of New York. The sub-contractors will also furnish the ties. The firm will establish their headquarters at Newberry on or about December 1st, and Col. Rexford will probably be there in person to look after the interests of his firm. Chief Engineer Latcha says that the sub- contracts on the western division will not be let for two or three months yet. as the locating survey will not be finished before that time. Five parties are now out on the line, and two others will probably be sent out in a week or so. The party of capitalists interested in the road, and which is working toward Marquette, will probably arrive on Wednesday.
