Mr. D. M. Philbin has been appointed Superintendent of Docks and ore business for the DSS&A Railway. The following is the notice of the appointment:
Duluth, South Shore & Atlantic R'y.
Office of the General Manager
Marquette, January 10, 1889
Mr. D. M. Philibin is hereby appointed Superintendent of Docks for this company with headquarters at Marquette. He will have charge of this company's dock properties at Marquette, St. Ignace and L'Anse, and will also attend to the distribution of ore cars during the ore shipping season.
W. F. Fitch
General Manager
Mr. Philibin is an expert in the ore handling business if there is one in the country. Commencing in a subordinate position on the docks at Escanaba, he learned every part of the business thoroughly, working up until he had entire charge of the C&NW's big ore and coal docks there, one of the most important railroad positions on the upper peninsula. He was at Ashland for a time but Mr. Fitch brought him back and he was afterwards superintendent FE&MV under Mr. Fitch, resigning that position to come to Marquette. His appointment means that the best possible service will be given the mines shipping over hte South Shore road, and vessels coming to this port. Mr. Philbin is not making a tour of the line to inspec the docks.
